In the present economic climate and the looming implementation of the 2020 environmental regulations, more and more companies are seeking the most economically viable solution to improving the performance of their air pollution control equipment.
RDP has been investing in methods of establishing the optimum ways of improving the performance of industrial baghouses and bag filters.
The term of “strip and clean” has become synonymous with RDP’s method of tackling the optimum method of filter bag change outs.
For a pulse jet Filter, what does a Strip and Clean involve?
First, we establish the need to change out the filter bags. This done by either observing a dust emission from the stack or by measuring the pressure drop across the filter bags.
When the need for a bag change out has been confirmed and replacement filter bags are available, the filter is taken off line. At this point RDP has its safety file approved by the client to ensure all company safety regulations are adhered to, after which the RDP team proceed to the filter to commence work.
After gaining permit to enter the bag filter (possible “confined space requirements) the filter doors are opened and the pulse pipes are removed in logical order.
The cages are again removed carefully from the bags and stored securely out of the compartment (noting any damage) to allow easy access to the filter bags.
The filter bags are then removed and lowered to ground level, preventing any excess dust being discharged to the atmosphere.
The next operation is to thoroughly clean the clean air plenum with a combination of brushes and Industrial vacuum cleaners.
Once the plenum is cleaned the new bags are installed, ensuring secure fitting into the tube plate hole. The cages are then fitted followed by the pulse pipes.
Once the fitting is complete the filter is closed up and instructions given to the client to commence the start-up procedure.
If required by the client, we are able to perform a black light test on start up to ensure that there are no leaking snap band connections.
For a Reverse Air Bag House what does Strip and clean mean?
The principle of Strip and Clean is the same as for a pulse jet filter, but the configuration and filter bag size as well as the fabric type present other challenges.
Typically, the reverse air bag house is divided into individual compartments and each compartment houses filter bags which are 300mm in diameter and from 9 to 13 m in length. The bags are fitted with a top cap and are suspended from a tensioning spring from the upper grating. In many of the high temperature bag houses the fabric used is glass fibre. These bags are very “delicate” and require special attention.
The challenges are related to the fact that the bags are large and cumbersome, so the RDP trained team know exactly how to go about stripping out the bags in the most efficient and safe way. This is not a job for the untrained.
Knowing how to strip, remove and then safely re install new bags without damage is the key. After installation the bags must be tensioned to the correct level to ensure proper efficient operation of the filter. The RDP team have the correct equipment for this task and are trained to provide the best installation for the customer
Along with these procedures RDP offers the service of on going maintenance of the filter unit. This would entail checking the operation of the pulsing system, the pulse valves as well as the dust disposal equipment, or in the case of the reverse air filter the correct cleaning cycle operation for the application
